The NY
Ukrainians pulled a hard fought comeback to tie Clarkstown 2-2 at
McCarrenPark on Sunday morning. The
Ukrainians were down 2-0 at the half. “We weren’t ready in the 1st
half. Half the team showed up two minutes before the game and no one was ready
to play. Some players showed up at halftime. After the half we started to play
our style soccer.” said Kovalenko.
Talented
fullback Menesky Magliore came in at the half and made a huge difference at
right back. Newcomer and
QueensCollege
product Daniel Cano produced a solid debut and had a hand in the tie. Speedy
forward David Alakasim scored the 1st goal off a break-away in the
55th minute. In the 70th minute midfielder Cano and
skipper Adam Maliniak produced some 1-2 passes and found Alakasim in the box
who was tripped up by Clarkstown’s keeper. Maliniak made no mistake in scoring
the penalty, sending the keeper the other way. “YCK” could have won it as they
kept pressuring Clarkstown but 2-2 was the final score.
“If all our
players came before the game started and had a decent warm-up we would have had
3 points. Our team needs to be more disciplined” said Kovalenko.
